Norwalk resident Jay Erickson is frustrated.

“Our internet went down again,” he told KCCI on Tuesday. His landline doesn’t work either.

The service outage began on Monday.

Erickson says that in today’s society, Internet access is invaluable.

“It’s not because you can’t stream Netflix. It’s very frustrating because you feel paralyzed,” he said.

He had already made the decision to make a switch to a CenturyLink competitor after a burst water pipe in downtown Des Moines caused an extended service outage.

Small businesses have not been spared either.

At Winn’s Pizza and Steakhouse in Norwalk, they learned their Internet and landline were down when they opened for dinner Monday at 4 p.m.

“We couldn’t accept calls or payments because of the credit card machine working,” said owner Andrew Sayasane.

Sayasane says he has worked around the internet issue and can now take credit card payments through his mobile phone. But with no fixed service yet, commit orders are not connecting.

KCCI reached out to CenturyLink and was told this latest issue is not due to the water main breaking in May.

This time, the problem is due to a damaged fiber cable.

The company’s technicians are working to restore services as soon as possible.
