Which games are coming to Quest 3 but not Quest 2? Here’s the full list so far.
There comes a point where we have to say goodbye to older hardware, and we’ve seen plenty of signs that Meta is preparing to no longer focus on the Quest 2. The company dropped the price of the headset to just $200, the 256GB model remains out of stock, and the Quest 2 accessories got a big price cut, all of which suggests a clearance sale. Along with the rumors that Meta is developing a cheaper Quest 3, we believe you should not buy a new Quest 2 anymore.
Although we’ve seen Quest 3 visual improvements for Quest 2 games so far, several developers have publicly dropped Quest 2 and Quest Pro support entirely for Quest 3 – including one of Meta’s first-party studios. Considering the Quest 3’s Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip offers a more than twice as powerful GPU capable of huge visual improvements, it’s not hard to see why.
This list is sure to grow in the coming months, so we’ll keep it updated as we learn more. Please note that this excludes First Encounters, as this is more of a mixed reality tutorial. While Townsmen VR was originally the first Quest game exclusive to Quest 3, it has since been released on older headsets and is no longer viable.
For now, here’s our full list of games in Quest 3, but not in Quest 2.
Alien: Rogue Incursion
Alien: Rogue Incursion is an original game made for VR in the Alien franchise. Described as a single-player, action-horror title, Survios confirmed it’s coming to Quest 3, but older Quest headsets aren’t supported. However, unlike the other entries on this list, Rogue Incursion is a multiplatform game that’s also hitting PC VR and PSVR 2 in Holiday 2024.
Hello Moves XR
Alo Moves XR is bringing its fitness platform to Quest with a new mixed reality app that uses volumetric capture for 3D instructors. Developed by Magnopus, it promises “life-sized, photorealistic” 3D virtual instructors guiding you through your home, environmental portals with nature-inspired landscapes, plus a selection of yoga, meditation and pilates classes.
Batman: Arkham Shadow
Developed by Camouflaj (Iron Man VR) and published by Oculus Studios, Batman: Arkham Shadow is the first game we’ve seen from Meta’s first-party studio that only supports Quest 3. Not much is currently known about this new entry beyond ” Late 2024 release window,” though more details will be revealed at Summer Game Fest on June 7.
Hello, Dot
Niantic (Pokemon Go) has adapted AR mobile game Peridot into ‘Hello, Dot’, a mixed reality experiment in Quest. Available for free with hand tracking support, you can grab the little creature from the air, dip it in a bucket of paint, or point it at a surface to direct its interest. You can also make a gesture with your hand to collect food and feed it.
Hitman 3 VR: Refreshed
Partnering with IO Interactive, XR Games (Zombieland, Zombie Army VR) is a separate effort from the previous Hitman 3 VR mode on PSVR and PC VR. Arriving this summer, Hitman 3 VR: Reloaded aims to reinvent the sandbox stealth game with shadowy visuals, dual wielding, improved environmental interaction and a revamped interface.
Laser Dance
Created by Cubism developer Thomas Van Bouwel, Laser Dance turns the spy-fi premise of dodging lasers into a room-scale mixed reality game. Van Bouwel informed UploadVR that Laser Dance requires a room scan with Meta’s latest Quest 3 APIs, stating that “in the Quest ecosystem, it will only come to Quest 3 and future headsets.” A release date remains unconfirmed.
Mecha Party
Developed by Chenni Network, Mecha Party takes place in a world where robotics and AI have become ever-present in everyday life. You will compete to become the league’s strongest mech pilot in a robot fighting league – The Mecha Party, in PvP battles across online battles. While it’s currently available on Steam and PSVR 2, a Quest 3 version is coming this summer.
Pencil!
Pencil! is a mixed reality art education tool coming to Quest 3. The app promises step-by-step tutorials to learn how to draw in mixed reality, using a Quest 3 controller as a paperweight to overlay instructions onto a physical piece of paper that you can draw on with a traditional pencil.
Home Starship
Developed by Creature, Starship Home was the first confirmed exclusive Quest 3 game. Launching in Q3 2024, this plant-filled future adventure turns your living room into a starship for an interplanetary expedition using the passage of mixed reality.
“Building a rich, meaningful and forward-looking mixed reality experience requires features that are only available in Quest 3,” Creature founder Doug North Cook told UploadVR in March.
